MossRehab

Hey all,

Friday was basically a pleasant day, all things considered.  Doug moved to MossRehab Hospital and is all set up in his new digs.  Rumor has it that there’s an awesome plasma TV in there that’s totally wasted on Doug the TV-hater.

If anyone wants to send a card, flowers, etc, the address is:

Doug Markgraf
Room 490
Drucker Brain Trauma Center
MossRehab/Einstein
60 East Township Line Road
Elkins Park, Pa, 19027

Also, he has said (written) that he wants to see people after this weekend.  Visiting hours at Moss are from 4:30pm to 8:30pm on weekdays.  We may post a note about that later, to try and schedule things just enough to not bombard Doug with people all at once.

More than anything else, he seems a little bored and frustrated.  He has started playing with his laptop, though there’s no wi-fi in the room.  After some more evaluation, it does seem that his left side is fine, it’s just so beat up that he’s tending to not use it if he can avoid it.  Some short term memory loss has happened, apparently beyond the accident, but it’s hard to tell how much given relatively difficult communications until he can talk.

Another funny story, much like the kanji one: At one point yesterday Doug was sitting in a yoga position in his bed, arms and legs folded, for a while.  All of a sudden he started falling backward.  Jen and Dan of course instantly leapt up to grab him.  As soon as they did so, Doug caught himself and sat right back up with a huge grin on his face.  Personally I hope he enjoys these shenanigans now because if he tries any on me he’s going to really get it once he’s better.

That’s about it for now.  Hopefully everyone can make it sometime during the week to visit.  I think it’d help a lot with the boredom and frustration.

I love that my favorite sign of Doug’s progress is that he’s joking with people now and thoroughly enjoying it, apparently. I’m so amazingly glad to hear how awesome he’s doing that fast! Keep going Doug, things are looking waaaay up from the speed you’re recovering at. 😀 Hope to visit soon!
