A short but important update: Doug's talking.  Earlier today a smaller trach was put in and the swelling in his vocal chords diminished such that he can speak.  I couldn't make the trip to the hospital today, but Dan says Doug's voice is a little faint but clear & understandable. He also started physical therapy today, and in particular spent a little time on an exercise bike.  True cyclist that he is, he promptly proceeded to start complaining about the pedals they have on the hospital bikes.

So, between being able to talk and starting to exercise a bit, Doug seems to be in much better spirits.  His big complaint right now seems to be that he's hungry, which makes sense given that he's been on nothing but IVs for a couple weeks now.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) they're going to start some testing to see if he can start to handle solid food yet.

Doug was very heartened to see the people that visited today, and would like everyone to come by, so visitors are much encouraged.  The trip there's not necessarily the shortest on public transit, so if anyone needs a ride or can offer a ride, please drop a comment on here.

Hopefully I'll run into everyone there sometime this week!

by corinate andy means, coordinate… because i dont think he meant coronate– which would mean he’s crowing visits to doug. engineers are not known for their spelling.

    Amazing job as usual, Doug.

Give it a couple of weeks and you’ll probably be speaking a dozen languages and levitating. Un-friggin-believable.
