Hi folks,

Well, Doug continues to make progress. It’s slow & steady, but definitely there. Even compared to a few days ago there’s much more emotion in his voice, and it sounds more like it used to. He’s eating more “regular” food, but I think still not ready for a normal diet so hold off on those cookies and things for a bit yet. His biggest concern right now is just fighting off boredom, so feel free to hop on over during visiting hours. One interesting thing he noted is that different people visiting help him mark the days and keep track of them, which is still a little fuzzy for him.  He’s also very glad to be rid of the trach.
Dan & Jen have pretty cool “Doug Tales” wristbands now. Find them at some point to grab one of your own. In return, anything you’re willing and able to contribute toward still-increasing medical costs would be greatly appreciated by everyone, including Doug. Lots of thanks go to Steve, Joy, Christopher, and Emmy for arranging for the wrist bands and keeping tabs on Doug from far away!

Dan & Jen also wanted to note some communication problems. At basically the same time as the accident they moved to a new house. The house number is still not connected. That’s why there’s been no response if you’ve been trying to reach them that way. To get a hold of them, their cell numbers are: Dan—215-317-5219; Jen—5-317-6396.

Our Saturday adventure, David’s Ride for the Brain Injury Association of PA, went really well.  Jen and myself as well as Chris B and Rob, two Drexel guys, went riding, with Dan meeting us at rest areas.  The ride’s in it’s second year and is still trying to get the word out, so it was a low key event.  Like most things of that nature though, that didn’t make it any less fun.  Next year Dan and I are both hoping to get more involved and help improve the route and some of the other logistics, like the cue sheets.  Doug’s also super excited about doing it next year, so all of you better just put it on your calendar now.

Once again, thanks for keeping us all informed. It is very much appreciated. Where to make donations is a good questions. Also, I was at a fund raiser for Alex’s Lemonade stand and some of the folks there are interested in coming to a fund raiser fror Doug at some point and/or donating. Please let all of us know when things get set in place.

Doug – good to hear you are continuing to make progress. Every time I read “dougtales” and I see something that akes me smile. It’s not all that surprising. I am hoping to come see you around Weds or Thurs. Take care.

I just found out about all this – I had Doug in class in Winter (oh relax, he did real well :)), for basic materials. Please tell him I was asking for him even if he doesnt remember me (not because of his injury, but because Im really quite a forgettable fellow). I hope his recovery continues as it has been. Im sure with time hell make a full recovery. If he gets too bored, tell him I now have a full length Broadway musical version of the class. If I can get Harvey Korman out of retirement, Ill see if we can come and do the show.

    Best regards & well wishes,
    Steve Mastro
