Prayer Service

Yesterday there was a prayer service for Doug in the hospital chapel. It went pretty well, there were more people than seat space in the chapel (some 30 people came, despite the short notice). Afterward, during the prayers in Doug's room, Dan noted that pressure in his head was at the lowest it's been since the accident.

We also have some more information on the vehicle that hit Doug (which did not stop and has not been found). It's a current (2004, 2005, or 2006 year), white Dodge Quad Cab pickup. It probably has a damaged grill and we think had an ATV in the back at the time of the accident. If anyone sees any vehicle like this around West Philly/University City, please call the Markgrafs, Steve B, or email me (jbk23@drexel.edu).

Visitors haven't been allowed in to Doug's room the past few days, but there's been a steady crowd there in the waiting room. Friday the hallway was lined both sides with people waiting to see him when they wheeled him out for his arm surgery. On that note, it turned out that the surgery was not postponed because of a change in Doug's condition, but rather because the doctor was unavailable. It was performed later on Friday and went fairly well. It was determined that his finger did not need to be pinned, and the plate in his wrist was put in easily enough. We think Doug will be excited to finally have a titanium part.

Also, the Memorial Hall crit that Doug was supposed to race in this Saturday went off well. A couple of the Drexel guys raced with Douginator patches pinned to their jerseys (this did not help them win, but it looked cool). A lot of people had also heard about the accident and wanted to hear how he's doing. It's been surprising and kind of neat hearing from a wide range of people that know Doug or the Markgrafs and want to hear how he's doing. We're hoping this website can help with that, and help reduce all the email going around, and especially the number of phone calls Jen and Dan are making to keep people informed.
